The City and Borough of Sitka has announced an open call for nominations to fill the position of employee representative on the Employee Relations Board, as mandated by Ordinance 2005-30. This ordinance not only permits collective bargaining for municipal employees but also establishes an Employee Relations Board. This board is designed to include three members representing different stakeholders: one from the employees, one from the assembly, and a third member jointly selected by the employee and assembly representatives.
The position of employee representative is unique in that the candidate does not need to be a current employee of the City and Borough of Sitka. Interested parties or those wishing to nominate a candidate for the role are encouraged to submit a Declaration of Candidacy form. These forms must be signed by the nominee and are available for download online or can be picked up in person at the Municipal Clerk’s Office, located at City Hall, 100 Lincoln Street, on the 3rd floor.
All completed forms must be submitted to the Municipal Clerk’s Office by 5:00 p.m. on April 24 to ensure the nominee’s name appears on the ballot. The election for the “Employee Representative” seat on the Employee Relations Board will be conducted by secret ballot. Eligible voters, including all current City and Borough of Sitka collective bargaining unit employees, are invited to cast their ballots at the Municipal Clerk’s Office from April 30 to May 2, during the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
