Yesterday, an Alaskan resident witnessed a very unusual sight while using their local gas station. Here, they were joined by a small plane which was also seen refuelling. In the image below which was originally shared on social media, the bright orange plane was seen being pumped with gas by its owner. Although it had a large wingspan, the plane was small enough to just about fit into the bay which made for a convenient scenario for its owner.

Interestingly, this sparked a debate as to how this was possible, with some Alaskans arguing that it may not run on regular fuel. However, this was quickly disproved by aviation fanatics who claimed that older planes were often capable of doing so, especially over short distances.

Typically, the gasoline must be aviation-grade, which means it has specific additives to prevent lead build-up and other issues that can occur in aircraft engines. This means that for planes like the above, it is absolutely fine to use regular gas.

Over the years, Alaska has had its fair share of private plane drivers and its not difficult to see why. With its breath taking views and abundance of land, it is a pilots dream. However, this week proved another reason why plane ownership maybe so popular in Alaska, which is due to the easy access of affordable fuel.
