On the morning of Friday, March 8, a routine patrol turned into a high-speed pursuit when a local police officer spotted James G. Thompson, a 47-year-old man previously charged with DUI and known to have a revoked driver’s license, behind the wheel of a vehicle. Attempting to enforce a traffic stop, the situation escalated as Thompson accelerated upon seeing the officer’s emergency lights, engaging in a dangerous attempt to escape by weaving through side streets.

Thompson’s reckless endeavor saw him exceeding the speed limit by forty miles per hour, blatantly ignoring stop signs, and forcing pedestrians to dodge out of harm’s way, fearing for their safety. The pursuit came to a conclusion when Thompson eventually halted the vehicle. A brief confrontation ensued, during which Thompson resisted arrest but was ultimately subdued and taken into custody by law enforcement.

Further investigation by the officer revealed another violation: Thompson’s vehicle was not equipped with an Ignition Interlock Device, a requirement from his previous DUI offense aimed at preventing such incidents.

Thompson now faces a series of charges, including a felony for failing to stop at the direction of a peace officer, resisting arrest, evasion of an Ignition Interlock Device, and reckless driving. He is presently detained at the Lemon Creek Correctional Facility, with bail set at $5,000, awaiting further legal proceedings. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who choose to disregard the law and public safety.
