Residents of Sitka have until the close of this week to share their feedback on the proposed extension of the Sitka Seawalk, an initiative spearheaded by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities in collaboration with the city. The planned extension aims to connect the Sitka Public Library to the O’Connell Lightering Facility, continuing to Totem Square. Greg Lockwood, overseeing the project’s design and environmental aspects for the Department of Transportation, emphasized the importance of public input. He assured that all comments and suggestions would be carefully considered to enhance the project’s overall outcome. With aspirations to commence the second phase of construction by this fall, the department encourages community members to submit their thoughts before the deadline at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 7.
