Sitka, Alaska – Former assembly candidate Austin Cranford has submitted paperwork to run again for a seat on the Sitka Assembly.

Mr. Cranford is one of three individuals who have filed for two available seats on the Sitka Assembly, each with a term of three years. Additionally, the mayoral position, with a term of two years, and two seats on the school board, both with three-year terms, are up for election this year. The deadline for submitting candidacy applications is 5 p.m. on August 2nd, with the municipal election scheduled for Tuesday, October 1st.

A seat on the Sitka Assembly is akin to being a city council member. Assembly members are responsible for crafting and passing local laws, overseeing city departments, managing the budget, and representing the community’s interests. They act as a bridge between residents and the city government, addressing concerns and shaping Sitka’s future through policy decisions.
