A San Francisco restaurant was recently called out by a disgruntled customer after receiving a 13% tax on their bill. Originally, the meal would have cost $182.25. However, after the $23.64 tax, the total came in at $205.89.

To make matters worse, the customer also claimed that they asked the waitress what the added tax was for. Apparently, her response was that the tax was for medicare tax. Originally, this story was posted on Reddit where it gained over 200 responses.

When prompted as to what the restaurant was, the user added: ‘This is Sotto Mare in North Beach. I am not sure if it was the tax or just I was expecting too much, but the food seems to have gone downhill also. It is sad, I used to think highly of them.’

Responding to the above picture, many San Francisco residents also bemoaned the tax and called for a bill to make this sort of practice illegal. According to others, this wasn’t the first restaurant in the city to do this kind of behavior. However, it is evident that at this point, locals are not happy with certain taxes when dining out. At this point, Sotto Mare has not replied to the original thread. Nonetheless, this is a not a good example of publicity for the eatery.
