Yesterday night saw an epic thunderstorm take place throughout parts of Raleigh which would have certainly woken up its fair share of locals. This was the combination of thunder and lightning, as well as plenty of heavy rain. While a little rain may have been a welcome relief during the Raleigh summer, you could argue that this went far beyond just a light downpour.
As seen in the video below, one Goldsboro resident captured the moment the thunder and lightning came crashing down close to their house. This resulted in a beautiful, purple sky in the background as mother nature showed just how powerful (and amazing) it can be.
This wasn’t the only video caught on social media as one user added: ‘Got some good strikes in downtown Raleigh. A few sounded like they hit right outside our place. Fun storm to watch.’ Elsewhere, the Carolina Alert had this to say when advising the public on dealing with the storm: ‘Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued July 23 at 11:20PM EDT until July 24 at 12:15AM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC Straight line winds can blow down trees, power lines, and damage mobile homes and other buildings. Seek shelter in a sturdy structure until the storm has passed. Stay away from windows as flying debris generated by damaging winds can be deadly.’
For now at least, it looks as though the bulk of the storm has passed in what has been an eventful few days in Raleigh.
